President Donald Trump has issued another statement about the NFL and the ongoing national anthem protests, as if there's not more important things going on in the world.
Trump's latest comments regarding the NFL and anthem protests: He says the NFL is "in a very bad box," adding, "The NFL has to change or their business is going to go to hell."
According to Politico, in addition to today's comments, Trump told wealthy attendees at a GOP donor dinner in New York last night that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell could have stopped the protests.
“All Goodell had to do was say there’s rules and you can’t do it, suspend him for a couple games, you would never have had this,” he said, according to an attendee. “Now you have this whole thing going, and it’s a very dangerous thing ‘cause we cannot let anyone disrespect our country like that.”
“You cannot have people disrespecting our national anthem, our flag, our country, and that’s what they’re doing,” he told reporters. “And in my opinion, the NFL has to change. Or you know what’s gonna happen? Their business is gonna go to hell.”
During the Monday Night Football broadcast earlier this week, Trump sent several tweets regarding the anthem protests, including:
"The NFL has all sorts of rules and regulations. The only way out for them is to set a rule that you can't kneel during our National Anthem!"
"The booing at the NFL football game last night, when the entire Dallas team dropped to its knees, was loudest I have ever heard. Great anger"
The President's beef with the NFL has been steady since last Friday, when he told a crowd of supporters at an Alabama rally that NFL owners should fired the "son of a bitch" players for kneeling during the anthem. In Week 3, NFL teams across the league kneeled, locked arms, or refused to go on the field altogether during the national anthem, as a show of unity in the wake of President Trump's comments.
