Fresh off the release of his Laugh Now, Fly Later mixtape, Wiz Khalifa was out in NYC this week and decided to make his way by the Complex headquarters to talk about the album & some of today’s hot topics, including drug use. Last week, Wiz made headlines after he proclaimed “lean was lame,” and he doubled down on that statement once again Thursday.
In a new interview with Jinx, Wiz said that he needed to speak up for the youth when he sent that IG post out last week, and that it came to him while at Complexcon and saw all the kids with a white double cup in hand. He also addressed how unfortunate it is that Lil Peep had to die for people to start seeing the side effects & problems with Lean.
"I just feel like somebody has to speak up for people who don't believe in that, or are really tired of seeing it," he said. "It's unfortunate that Lil Peep had to die and stuff like that, but these are the things people are gonna start seeing and keep happening if they don't really relax and fall back. I just want to be the responsible person and say something.”
Wiz later added, "I got a couple friends who do sip lean and shit, and I tell them all the time like, 'Yo, that shit is wack bro.’”
In case you missed last week’s initial IG post, Wiz wanted to be the one to empower people and let them know that “lean is lame.” “Feel empowered," Wiz said. "Know that lean is definitely lame.”
Hopefully more artists can jump on this “lean is lame” slogan and follow Wiz in helping change the culture's influence on it.
