A freestyle over Meek Mill's "Dreams & Nightmares."

Southwest Mook has shared a remix to Meek Mill's "Dreams & Nightmares," a song that inspired the structure to Tee Grizzley's "First Day Out." Both hailing from Detroit, Mook's new track nods to Tee Grizzley's song as well, but she's turned the concept on its head. "First Day Out" was far from the first track about turning a new page after serving time, but Mook's track "First Day In," is equally moving as it looks the other way. "Devia Harris AKA Southwest Mook is currently an inmate in the Michigan department of corrections," reads a statement at the beginning of her new video. "Her release date is yet to be published." From there, Mook tells her story in gritty detail. "I started selling weed and yay / The streets was swallowing me / I caught a case and then a case / I fucked up my name / My momma came home still addicted to 'caine." By the time the legendary beat switch comes, her rapping is as ferocious as it gets and her stories of pain take an optimistic turn. She's reportedly been sentenced to three years behind bars. Like "Dreams & Nightmares" was for Meek, "First Day In" will serve as a call for her freedom until then.

Quotable Lyrics:
Emergency doors lock
Shit, my heart was racing
Bullet through my chest
Think my heart finna stop
Then my body it drops
I hopped up like 'n***a I'm shot'
I'm on the run
This n***a tellin' the cops
I'm cuffed all to the bed
If I was out I woulda been on his head
