It felt like for the majority of 2017, Big K.R.I.T was quiet on a music front. He didn't release much music nor was he too active in the public eye. However, it all made sense once he began the roll out for his latest album. The rapper released 4eva Is A Mighty Long Time at the tail end of October which served as his first studio album since 2014's Cadillactica. Even though he had dropped some projects between those times, the wait felt worth it. Most recently, he stopped by NPR's headquarters to perform a soulful rendition of some cuts off of the project.
Big K.R.I.T performed three songs off his latest project on NPR's Tiny Desk series. The three songs he chose all came from the second disc of his latest project which he titled after his birth name, Justin Scott. The rapper did a beautifully soulful rendition of "Mixed Messages," "Keep The Devil Off" and "Bury Me In Gold."
Halfway through his set, the rapper pulled out a tape recorder which his late grandmother used to record him singing and reciting poetry when he was a young man. "I have to feel like my grandmother was my first mix engineer," he said before playing a duet between him and his brother as children singing "Where I Wanna Be" from Donell Jones.
His performance comes shortly before he embarks on his "Heavy Is The Crown" tour to support his latest album. Peep the dates here.
