Not since the Red Hot Chili Peppers has an "Otherside" been this monumental. While plenty of attention has been paid to the more party-friendly Beerbongs & Bentleys selections, the project is more versatile than early impressions may indicate. We've all come to understand that Post's musical horizons are hardly anchored to a particular genre. Instead, the singer draws influence from a wide variety of sources, including prolific rock trailblazers. Such is the case on "Otherside," which stands out as one of the album's more emotional cuts.
Lamenting a love gone awry, Post channels his inner The Weeknd over polished and dearly melancholic instrumentation. "You’re my alibi and motive when I'm lyin' to myself, what an ugly truth," sings Post, backed by high octane percussion. We're well aware that Posty is jovial by nature, enticed by the Bacchanalian joys of Bud Light fountains and "beautiful boobies." Yet "Otherside" shines a light on the layers we've always suspected.
While Beerbongs & Bentleys has plenty for this party, this is one for those coming home alone. Or heaven forbid, the ones in the midst of heartbreak. Should that be you, I wish you the best. Keep your head up, and let Malone be your solace.
