Kendrick Lamar is coming off an incredibly stellar year, with DAMN. being near or at the top of many year-end lists, including taking the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Hottest Albums of 2017 rankings. As December draws to a close, it seems fitting that the rapper would sit down and look back at his past accomplishments. And, since that's the case, who better to do so with than the "King of All Media," Howard Stern.
K. Dot sat and had a lengthy chat with the Sirius XM legend earlier this morning (December 12th), with topics ranging from the success of DAMN. and its singles like "Humble" and "DNA" to past collaborations with superstars like Taylor Swift. She and Kendrick joined forces for "Bad Blood," which was on Swift's 1989 LP, a record that catapulted them both to new heights. In Lamar's mind, it's actually a very strategic process when it comes to choosing who you work with, irrespective of whatever compensation you're receiving. Check out what he had to say below.
As well, Kendrick touched on his "almost" collab attempt with the one and only Prince. Indeed, the Purple One was apparently supposed to be part of To Pimp A Butterfly, and was very complementary of the proposed track, "Complexion," when the rapper played if for him at his estate. However, due to unwieldy schedules, the pair simply ran out of time and couldn't get it done. You can hear his interview excerpt on the subject below as well.
