Family members Takeoff, Quavo, and Offset have the hip-hop game in the palm of their hands. In the last two years, the Migos have ascended to the top of the hip-hop game by releasing endless club bangers and catchy radio singles. They were featured on the cover of Rolling Stone last month, and although they might have been snubbed at the Grammys, their album Culture II is the number one album in the country. Culture II features several hit records including "MotoSport," "Walk It Talk It," and "Stir Fry," and hopefully the Migos' success isn’t hampered by a pending assault charge that threatens to send Quavo to jail.
The Migos believe themselves to be the biggest rap group ever, and they’re making it a point to prove their theory. Culture II enabled the trio to have multiple songs enter Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. With 14 songs currently concurrently charting, Migos tied The Beatles for most songs simultaneously holding positions on the chart. Much like with The Beatles, all of the attention and fame may start a little in-group competition.
Just like in every family, a little competition between relatives exists within the Migos. Their rivalry isn’t loudly announced, but it exists more subtly. It’s like an unspoken tournament of who can purchase the most outlandish chain, or who can deliver the best verse. Migos’ fans all have their favorite member. Whether it’s the hook-conquering Quavo, quiet until he takes off Takeoff, or the Cardi B-dating Offset, each member brings something different to the table. Their style has influenced the entire game while reminding the world that Atlanta still has something to say. Although the crew may have a list of songs that can span the length of the Brooklyn Bridge, we picked out ten Migos tracks and ranked which member delivered the best verse.
Walk It Talk It featuring Drake
Produced by Deko and OG Parker, this banger just earned Drake his 70th Top 40 hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Although each artist spits a standout verse on this track, Offset steals the show with his energetic flow and smooth delivery.
Winner: Offset
Hannah Montana (Twerk Remix)
Produced by Dun Deal, “Hannah Montana” helped launch Migos’ career. The original doesn’t feature Offset, but the remix reunites the three Migos, and the recently freed rapper goes in.
Winner: Offset
Fight Night
This classic Migos single earned the rappers their first gold record. Produced by Stack Boy Twan, “Fight Night” was one of the hottest records during the summer of 2014. Takeoff commandeers the chorus and also delivers the best verse.
Winner: Takeoff
Versace
Before Drake took this banger and stole the show, the Zaytoven-produced record featured the Migos’ most imitated flow. Quavo starts it off with the infamous “Versace, Versace, Medusa head on me like I’m ‘Luminati.” That may be one of Migos’ most famous bars.
Winner: Quavo
T-Shirt
Arguably one of the dopest beats that the Migos have ever rapped on, “T-Shirt” is produced by X.L. and Nard & B. Offset and Quavo end up splitting the second verse, leaving Takeoff to kill the intro.
Winner: Takeoff
MotorSport featuring Nicki Minaj and Cardi B
Produced by CuBeatz and Murda Beatz, “MotorSport” is the first official Nicki Minaj/Cardi B collaboration. It is currently the second highest charting single by the Migos on Billboard’s Hot 100, behind “Bad and Boujee.” Cardi versus Nicki debates aside, Offset takes this one home.
Winner: Offset
Stir Fry
The second single off Migos’ number one album Culture II was produced by Pharrell Williams. The synth-pop banger gives Quavo an opening verse that’s irresistibly catchy.
Winner: Quavo
Slippery featuring Gucci Mane
OG Parker and Deko produce another hit for the Migos, who employed Gucci Mane to help them paint pictures on “Slippery.” This banger off Culture finds each member of the group at their best, but Offset’s flows overshadow his boys.
Winner: Offset
Get Right Witcha
Zaytoven and Murda Beatz combined their powers to produce this anthem. Takeoff grabs the last verse of the song and shows off his back-and-forth flow effortlessly.
Winner: Takeoff
Handsome and Wealthy
One of the earlier Migos club hits, “Handsome and Wealthy” was produced by Cheeze Beatz. Takeoff outshines his partners on the second verse, switching between sluggish bars and rapid flows.
Winner: Takeoff
The Winner
Offset and Takeoff tie with four wins each. Sorry Quavo. If this were just about the hooks, undoubtedly Quavius would have bested his Migos brethren.
Offset: 4/10
Takeoff: 4/10
Quavo: 2/10
