After a year-long hiatus, Chief Keef returned in a big way in 2017, releasing a number of projects including Two Zero One Seven, Dedication, and Thot Breaker. He's yet to put out a project this year, but today, "Lien," a new collaboration with DP Beats, sees release, and it appears to be from the Thot Breaker sessions, or so the artwork would suggest. Keef and DP have a strong history together, including their team-up for the incredibly underrated Almighty DP, which Sosa stans count as an essential release from the Chicago rapper. "Lien" contains the same chemistry that made the tape so great, but also leans into Keef's R&B side that we heard on the long-awaited Thot Breaker.
Keef recently took credit for inventing mumble rap, a statement few would take issue with considering the audible influence he's had on artists like Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert. As a new wave of rappers pull influence from his underrated 2013-2014 material, Keef has continued to push forward, and we may see another batch of artists sounding like Thot Breaker in a few years time. Keef recently hinted that new music with fellow Chicagoan G Herbo would be released soon, though it's unclear if the two are working on a single track or a full-length project. Either way, if he's keeping up his 2017 pace, we expect to see another project from Keef in the near future.
Quotable Lyrics:
Why you lyin' girl?
Why you be lyin' all the time, girl?
Make up your mind, girl
Get you some money, girl
You like a blind girl
Get off my line, girl
