Starting off with some classic "Slow Jamz" lyrics, Pell is fully embracing a scratchy, old-school 35mm film aesthetic in the video for "throwback." Assisted by Saba, Pell sets up a dining table on the shoreline of a beach while waking up not too far away. If the track is meant to be a throwback as suggested in the title, the video furthers that narrative perfectly as the set is complete with an antenna television and vintage furniture. Pell's harmonies throughout the track, as well as the treatment of his vocal mix are stellar, creating an air of space in the audio.
The track was originally released as part of his girasoul EP in December and with Saba's Care For Me dropping last week, there is no better time than now to catch the video and get acquainted with both artists.
