Chance the executive producer? It appears so. According to Sports Illustrated, Chance the Rapper will be teaming up with fellow Chicagoan Dwayne Wade to executive produce a new documentary called Shot In The Dark. Set to premiere on Fox on February 24th, the documentary follows Chicago’s Orr Academy basketball team as it navigates both the sport and systemic injustice in the city, while also focusing on the story of former player Tyquone Greer.
Greer shot a game winning three-pointer back in 2014 that sent his team to the final four. However the real story is that he made the game-winning just a week after being shot in the leg at a house party.
“Shot in the Dark is an authentic and realistic look at high school sports in Chicago and what it means for our youth,” Chance said. “It’s not really a game for some of us.”
“Basketball empowered me to overcome the challenges of growing up on the south side of Chicago,” Wade said in a press release. “The odds were stacked against me, and the game changed the course of my life. It’s important to share these true stories of triumph to inspire the next generation to achieve their dreams when faced with life’s obstacles.”
The documentary serves as the second release in a new series from FOX called "Magnify," which looks to examine how sports reflect cultural stories. Look for more to be on the way.
