A terrifying event disrupts the Monday morning commute in New York City.

This morning's commute in New York City took a turn for the terrifying after the after an explosion was reported near the Port Authority bus terminal.

According to The New York Times, authorities had to evacuate several subway lines and clear one of the busiest transit hubs in the city following the incident. The explosion is supposedly of unknown origin, but the location of the detonation has since been confirmed at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue.

This location is normally teeming with foot traffic from commuters, since it is where two subway stations, Times Square and Port Authority, are connected by a tunnel. Reports indicate that, as of this writing, one person has been taken into custody in connection with the bomb, as per the Police Department. An senior city official who wished to remain anonymous said that "the suspect had been wearing an explosive device strapped to his person and that the police had stripped him naked to remove it."

The suspect was reportedly not with any accomplices when the device went off. Apparently, it went off prematurely in the passageway between the two subway stations. The detonation has been captured on surveillance video, though that footage hasn't been made public as of this writing.

The man who was in custody is currently in serious condition at Bellevue Hospital.
