Saquon Barkley, a projected Top-5 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, posted an official time of 4.40 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis today, according to NFL.com. The former Penn State running back was the second quickest to run today, trailing only N.C. State's Nyheim Hines, who ran a 4.38.
Barkley, who stands 5'11 and 233 lbs, also recorded an unofficial 41-inch vertical leap today, according to NFL.com.
"I had some goals set: I wanted to get in the 4.3s. I wanted to get at least a 42 in the [vertical]," Barkley said on NFL Network. "But, like I said, I can't complain with the things I did today."
During yesterday's session, Barkley bench pressed 225 pounds for 29 reps, which was tied for the most among running backs with Georgia's Nick Chubb.
Barkley is widely regarded as the most talented at his position in the upcoming draft and he certainly isn't hurting his standing with his performance at the NFL Combine. The 21-year old star, who has already inked an endorsement deal with Nike and signed with Jay Z's Roc Nation Sports, rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his three seasons with the Nittany Lions, and had 18 rushing touchdowns in each of his last two seasons.
