Young Thug's new EP Hear No Evil is a highly collaborative surprise project. Each of the collection's three songs features a big guest. Nicki Minaj shows up on "Anybody," Lil Uzi Vert guests on "Up," but perhaps the strongest track on the project, "Now," arrives last and gets an assist from 21 Savage. Though it will likely never be given an official release, Thug and 21 already have a fan favorite under their belt with "Issa," a song long worshipped before it arrived in leaked form with an additional Drake verse. The chemistry found on that record continues onto "Now," which benefits from a hypnotically catchy key-line from the consistently underrated DJ Spinz. The two each use a flow familiar to fans of Lil Uzi Vert and rappers of his ilk, which many agree originated with Chief Keef. It's that rides into a short rest, before being punctuated by a one syllable exclamation (in Keef's case, "Aye!," in Uzi's "Yeah!"). Here, both rappers put their own spin on the rhythm, as well as expanding outwards and carving out their own unique paths on the beat.
Earlier this year, Thug announced that he would not be releasing new music to pay respect to his deaf brother. While he has changed his mind, "Anybody" arrived with a video that translated the lyrics in sign language. Listen to the full project here.
Quotable Lyrics:
Thinkin' 'bout pullin' Savage's card
You must be on acid
Cheap ass shots
Got her feelin' like plastic
My earrings cost more
Than a n***a life savin'
Fuck a weddin' ring
I gave her a mouth full of babies
