Atlanta meets Wakanda.

J. Period is no stranger to making political music. The Brooklyn DJ has made songs with Common, and even assisted Lin-Manuel Miranda and The Roots in the creation of The Hamilton Mixtape. Now he's taking on another pop culture phenomenon, Marvel's Black Panther, and mashing it up with an all-time great rap album, Outkast's Stankonia.

The mix, which will be available in downloadable form on April, 20th, finds Period fusing the two projects together in interesting ways. André 3000's "Bombs Over Bagdad" verse takes on a whole new dimension when it's slowed down and performed over the sounds of Wakandan chanting. Audio clips of news stories are interspersed throughout, some detailing the shootings of black people at the hands of police officers.

J. Period find lessons of black liberation in the spirits of both Outkast and Black Panther, and this mix is a strong testament to that.
