Skizzy Mars doesn't have to sell his pitch now that he's verified. Still young and still learning, the rapper proves his nostalgia is well earned. On cuts like "2006" claims ownership of a relationship since departed. The Harlem rapper is a rare New York voice that doesn't suffer from the Newport effect. That being a harshness that comes with dilapidated experiences lived, which isn't to suggest he's a no frills rapper either. His vulnerable side is what sets him apart. We as enthusiasts of rap, are far too married to existing tropes.
