Donald Glover's "Atlanta" has earned a reputation as a critical favorite, blending an urban coming-of-age narrative with hip-hop culture and the surrealism of Twin Peaks. Now, the series is about to make a return, with a confirmed premiere date of March 1st, 2018 at 10 pm. However, if you're looking for a detailed look at any plot developments or dialogue snippets, you're unfortunately out of luck. The FX series' second season has been called "Atlanta Robbin' Season," but other than that, they're keeping details close to the chest.
The trailer is all about style, with a slow moving pan across several different scenes; Gambino's character Earn sitting with cousin Paperboy and his baby mama Vanessa; Gambino and Paperboy hitting the club with Darius; Gambino watching Darius mowing the lawn. The cinematography is on point, but overall, the clip feels more like a teaser than a trailer. Still, "Atlanta" fans won't have to wait much longer to see the next chapter of Donald Glover's brainchild unfold.
For those unaware, "robbin' season" refers to the time period before the holidays, which leads to an increase in reported burglaries across Atlanta. It stands to reason that we might be looking a holiday-centric storyline, at least to an extent. Stephen Glover, "Atlanta's" executive producer, writer, and brother of Donald recently teased that “It’s a very dangerous, uncertain time in the city. So everybody’s shaken up a little bit this year, and everybody has to make important decisions. Robbin’ Season’ is kind of like a metaphor for all of our characters.”
