Derrick Rose One on One
Without a team, Derrick Rose seems destined for the NBA's doghouse.

Derrick Rose was an odd fit in New York's triangle offence, he couldn't carve out a role on the Cavalier's second unit, and the Utah Jazz didn't even give him a sniff upon trading for his rights in a multi-player swap. There were a few murmurs of interest around the league, but the trade deadline passed with teams looking elsewhere. Rose reportedly received a few 10-day offers, but his ego may not be ready to swallow that pill. His reputation may be an at all time low. Talent aside, it's unclear how he fits with teams preferring elite defensive wings to traditional combo guards.

Rose doesn't fit the standard description of either guard position. His explosiveness has been compromised by a torn meniscus which ruled him out for the entire 2013 season. The Chicago Bulls didn't do him any favours in his first three seasons, playing him a startling 37 minutes a game on average.

One unnamed NBA official in conversation with BleacherReport cited injuries and lack of enthusiasm as two deterrents. This is unprecedented territory for a former MVP. Rose will likely have to wait 'til next season to get on the right good foot. For now at least, we expect the worst, and hope for the absolute best.
