Draymond Green’s talent on the court is almost matched by his outspoken demeanor when he’s off of it, and in a recently published interview with GQ Magazine, we’ve been reminded just why that’s the case.
Taking place some days after the Golden State Warriors’ win against the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2017 NBA championship, he spoke candidly about the Warriors’ dominance in the league and what he perceives as hilarity in other teams scrambling to essentially emulate the super team roster that Golden State has managed to compile.
“They didn’t stand a fucking chance,” he said about the Cavaliers. “It pissed me off we didn’t sweep them, though.”
As you prbably remember, the only defeat the Warriors suffered during the series was when the Cavaliers prevailed following an impressive performance in which they dropped twenty-four three-pointers, a record in Finals history.
“That’d never been done!” Green told the publication. “They don’t come out and hit twenty-four threes and they’re swept, and that’s the second best team in the world. It’s pretty fucking sick to see how everybody is just in a fucking panic about what to do,” he continued in reference to the rest of the league. “You sit back and think, like, these motherfuckers, they know. That’s the fun part about it: They know they don’t stand a chance.”
Earlier on in the account, Green also touched on a previous statement made by Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey in which he said that the Warriors “are not unbeatable.”
"There have been bigger upsets in sports history,” said Morey. “We are going to keep improving our roster. We are used to long odds. If Golden State makes the odds longer, we might up our risk profile and get even more aggressive. We have something up our sleeve.”
According to journalist Clay Skipper, Draymond’s reaction was a mere scoff at the idea. “What the fuck are you talking about?” he exclaimed. “They are really trying to rethink their whole strategy because teams know they don’t have a fucking clue.”
Another day. Another brazen take by way of Draymond Green.
