The San Francisco 49ers hosted the Los Angeles Rams last night for Thursday Night Football to kickoff Week 3, and to everybody's surprise the game was wildly entertaining. Especially if you're a Todd Gurley, Carlos Hyde, Sammy Watkins or Pierre Garcon fantasy football owner.
But even if you had no stake in the game, the 49ers and Rams had football fans, regardless of their allegiance, on the edge of their seats.
The 49ers put up 19 points in the fourth quarter and recovered an onside kick late in the game to put the team within striking distance of field goal range. Trailing by two and the ball at midfield, 49ers QB Brian Hoyer found rookie receiver Trent Taylor for an apparent 11-yard gain and what would've been a first down at the Rams' 39-yard line. However, Taylor was flagged for offensive pass interference. Two plays later, Aaron Donald sacked Hoyer to secure LA's 41-39 victory.
Check out the controversial offensive pass interference call below.
Both teams combined for 10 touchdowns last night, and 80 total points, as the Rams escaped with a W, improving to 2-1 on the season. The 49ers are still searching for their first win of the season.
