Chris Brown, Offset & 21 Savage See Increase In Sales Second Week

Chris Brown's new album Heartbreak On A Full Moon has two advantages when it comes to sales: at 45 songs in length, 1 complete stream of the album gives it a considerable lead in Streaming Equivalent Albums; as a double album, the RIAA counts each sale twice towards gold and platinum certification. The album charted at No. 3 last week, after being available for 3 days, clocking 68,000 units. This cycle, with a full week of streaming and purchases to be counted, HOAFM has topped its first week sales with 73,000 units, according to Billboard. It remains at No. 3 on the chart for a second week. Per the aforementioned RIAA rules, once the album reaches 250,000 in sales, which it is approaching quickly, it will be eligible for gold certification.

After he launched his album on October 31st, which left only 3 days in the sales cycle, he expressed confusion over why he would not be granted a full week of consideration. "So I’m hearing that I will only be credited for 3 days of sales for my first week," he wrote. "DONT UNDERSTAND how that is...👀. Just like the 9 platinum plaques RIAA Just dropped out of the sky this year (not including the 3 that I just received for HOAFM singles). (10 platinums =💎)." 

Brown's album falls behind two debuts on the charts. Sam Smith's The Thrill Of It All has placed at No. 1 with 237,000 equivalent album units, while Maroon 5's Red Pill Blues has come in at No. 2 with 122,000 equivalent album units.

Offset, 21 Savage, and Metro Boomin's Without Warning, which like Brown's album, was released mid-week on October 31st, has also earned an increase in sales. This week, it's moved 56,000 album equivalent units, up from last week's 53,000, but falls from No. 4 to No. 5.

Next week, Taylor Swift's Reputation is expected to bring in the highest sales week of 2017, topping Kendrick Lamar's current lead. As of today, Kendrick has the biggest sales week with 603,000 album equivalent units sold in its first week. Meanwhile, Drake's More Life is the second largest opening week of the year with 505,000 album equivalent units. Taylor's album is expected to eclipse 1 million copies, if not reaching to 2 million.
