Tech N9ne may not necessarily a household name as far as mainstream hip-hop goes, but he's been a well-respected member of the underground community for some time now. His work, often bristling with blunt views on important social issues, has caught the ear of many, but today, the rapper was surprised by a special shout-out from the one and only Eminem.
In an interview that he did by phone with friend and fellow music industry giant Elton John, Eminem touched on a variety of subjects, from politics to sobriety and of course his new album, Revival, which is set to drop on December 15th. Among the many queries that John asked Slim Shady was to name who he thought was killing it musically right now. Among the artists he named were J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Royce Da 5'9", Joyner Lucas and, last but not least, Tech N9ne.
As you can probably surmise from the above reaction, Tech was overflowing with joy upon getting an endorsement from Mr. Mathers himself. "Love is all around me!" he exclaimed, no doubt getting the kind of visibility that his indie-rap stylings may have afforded him in the past. Spoiler alert: Sir Elton is a fan as well.
Elsewhere in the interview, Eminem revealed some of his thinking behind making Revival, which has been the topic of much music industry buzz for what feels like forever now. "The album is called Revival. It’s a reflection of where I’m at right now, but also I feel like what I tried to do was diversify. I’ve tried to make a little something for everyone," he said.
