Rihanna fans were more than a little shook.

It goes without saying that, in the world of music, most performers don't go by their birth names on the album or live in concert. From Shawn Carter to Onika Tanya Maraj, many of the most popular rappers have legal names that don't really resemble their given legal identities, but with the advent of the Internet, that doesn't prevent most fans from figuring out what most hip-hop artists' real names are. With that in mind, it was quite amusing to see more than a few Rihanna fans perplexed by the moniker that she decided to give her new makeup line, which had its launch earlier this week over in the U.K.

The reasoning behind that choice is, of course, because that's Rihanna's real last name. Born Robyn Rihanna Fenty on February 20th, 1988, the Barbados native has been making hit music for what seems like forever under that iconic stage name. Needless to say, the uninformed were more than a little shook when the truth was revealed to them. Again, I'm not too sure how this information eluded them with Internet connections built into every smartphone and mobile device that's available on the market today, but I digress. Behold the amazement of the enlightened:

Before anyone tries to smash their computer or smartphone screen out of anger, just know that you're not the only one. Several other Twitter users turned up to scold the "uncultured swine" who weren't privy to this basic information previously.

As it turns out, if you really want to get RiRi's attention across a crowded room, the best bet would be to use her real name. “I get kind of numb to hearing Rihanna, Rihanna, Rihanna. When I hear Robyn, I pay attention,” the singer told Rolling Stone in 2011. “Robyn is the brick to my foundation. It’s something I hold on to. It’s everything I grew up with, my childhood, Barbados, people close to me. Everything that’s familiar. People know Rihanna from my music. But if this were to all go away tomorrow, I would always look at myself as Robyn.”
