It appear Lupe Fiasco is a little frustrated with the cover art for Kendrick Lamar & SZA’s new song “All The Stars.” Earlier Friday morning, the Chicago emcee hopped on Twitter to voice his disappointment in the record’s similiar-looking cover art as his upcoming Drogas Wave album.
In a now deleted tweet, Lupe shared a photo of both cover art’s side by side, and said that he think that it’s a little too close for comfort, referring to them copying his style.
“Even I admit this is a little too close for comfort…. damn now I guess I need a new album cover… thanx @TheBlackPanther,” he tweeted with a sad emoji. He also tweeted, “no matter how far you go…you will reflect me,” before alluding to Kendrick borrowing the inspiration for his original Untitled album cover from Lupe’s Food And Liquor II cover, which is also a solid black design.
He didn't stop there either though. Lupe also said that he did the whole “backwards album” concept with Tetsuo & Youth years before Kendrick did it with Damn. And he even brought up being into ninjas first too.
Lupe originally said he was going to change his album cover, but has since changed his mind and stated that he doesn't want people to think he’s biting K.Dot’s artwork. In another deleted tweet, Lupe wrote “we gone keep it because I made it and it’s dope but I want everybody to mark the date so that y’all don’t retroactively accuse of biting K-Dots album art when Wave drops…ok?”
Thanks to UpRoxx, who was able to capture a screen shot of the tweets before being deleted, y’all can check out Lupe’s gripe (below) and let us know what you think. Does Lupe have a right to be frustrated?
