Nicki Minaj Fans At Odds Over Brother's Guilty Verdict

The last few weeks we've been updating you guys on the latest happenings in the trial surrounding Nicki Minaj's older brother, Jelani Maraj, and the allegations that he raped his former step-daughter.

We first learned that Nicki Minaj was standing behind her brother "100 percent" when he was first accused of the rape back in December of 2015. Nicki even reportedly posted the $100,000 bail from when he was first thrown in jail. 

Jelani's lawyer then publicly claimed that the mother of the victim, Jacqueline Robinson, was forcing her daughter to lie as an attempt to extort Nicki for $25 million dollars.

“Why would [Jacqueline] lie and force her children to lie? I can give you 25 million reasons why,” attorney David Schwartz told the courtroom. “Jackie became obsessed with Nicki Minaj — getting her hands on her money." He added, "an evil Jackie targeted [Jelani]. Trying to get him to marry her, and then just four months after they were married, we have this.”

It wasn't until the little brother of the victim took the stand and detailed the disturbing moment that he walked in on Jelani raping his sister, that Nicki reportedly backed out of being a witness in the case. The victim then shared her accounts of being raped, where she said it would happen frequently after school, telling the courtroom the explicit and graphic details of her encounters with her stepfather.

More reports from the case detailed how the prosecutor wanted to "hold [Jelani] accountable" and give the victim “her voice back.” One juror who was released from the trial said there wasn't enough evidence that proved Jelani did it. 

The final verdict on the case was revealed yesterday stating that Jelani was found guilty and is facing a sentence of twenty-five to life in prison, which is set to begin on December 14th.

All of these court dealings are, of course, bringing a lot of attention to Nicki's name - some positive and some negative. Most of the Twitterverse says that the rapper shouldn't be dragged down with her brother, with one user tweeting, "I honestly wish some of you stop using Nicki Minaj’s brother situation as a tool to shade her . There’s a difference between shading for fun and being ignorant on purpose."
