It’s safe to say Playboi Carti has seen a meteoric rise to success over the past year or so thanks in large part to his hit singles “Magnolia” & “Woke Up Like This” from his self-titled debut album. Since the album’s release in April, Playboi has been busy lending out features to other artists in the game, including Chief Keef, Lana Del Rey, ASAP Ferg & Hoodrich Pablo Juan to name a few, but we still haven’t received much from Playboi himself though. However, that doesn't mean he hasn't been working. On Wednesday, footage surfaced online of Carti listening to some unreleased music of his while in the studio, and it sound pretty fire.
While it’s a little tough to make out the lyrics at times, the song is all about the wavvy vibe & bouncy production from his go-to man Pierre Bourne, who we just interviewed in our latest “On The Come Up” series coincidentally (see below). We can hear Carti rapping about his diamonds, foreign whips, and bitches, among other things, but it’s the production & bouncy flow & delivery that standouts in this clip. “Yeah she left in the morning/ Diamonds on diamonds on diamonds on diamonds, empty your pocket and pay that lil hundred/ I got piru’s in the lobby, I got the Piru’s right behind me,” he opens the clip spitting.
There’s not too much information on the song yet, but it looks like it’ll feature Skippa Da Flippa and producer Pierre Bourne as previously stated. No word on what the song could be called or where it will end up on, but hopefully this is indication that he's working on a new project.
The footage surfaces just a couple weeks after rumors started circulating that Carti might have a collab project with Lil Uzi Vert on the way. The rumor could just be a fan theory, but the idea of it alone is super dope and definitely worthy of the mention. Read that rumor report here if you missed it.
