Spike Lee celebrates a mile-marker.

Who among us doesn’t enjoy a good old-fashioned Spike Lee Joint? It was 30 years ago that the world was gifted with the veteran filmmaker’s second feature film in the form of his School Daze cult classic and he’s celebrating the milestone with a special screening this month.

The film, centered around Greek life at a historically black college, was spawned from Spike’s personal experiences as an undergraduate in the Atlanta University Center—the consortium consisting of Lee’s alma mater Morehouse College, its sister school Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, and Morris Brown College. Fittingly, the director will be traveling back down to Atlanta to deliver on a special screening at the city’s historic Fox Theatre on February 19th, a week from the date of the original release of School Daze.

“On February 19th At 7PM, The 30th Anniversary Screening Of School Daze Will Be Held At The World Famous Fox Theatre In Atlanta, Georgia,” Spike revealed by way of an Instagram post accompanying the film’s original poster. “Come Repping Your Frats, Sorors And HBCU. I Will Join You There In Living Black Color And 30th Anniversary Collectors Edition School Daze Merchandise Will Be Available. Stay Tuned For Details.”

School Daze was the follow-up to Spike Lee’s debut feature film She’s Gotta Have It, which has since been revamped into a series on Netflix. The series has seen it’s share of success, too, as it’s since been renewed for a second season, continuing to introduce a newer generation to the wonders of Spike Lee.
