Yung Lean has undergone an undeniable artistic evolution. When the Swedish rapper first dropped with breakout single "Kyoto," Leandoer's entrance into the rap game seemed caught between genius and fad. As time passed and the young artist underwent his trials and tribulations, he emerged from the other side with a clear sense of self. While the outlandish lyrics centered around stunting and drug use are still around, they're done so with a more obvious sense of self-awareness. As seen on last years standout Stranger, Lean's far more aware of the dark underbellies that accompany hedonistic behavior.
The trend continues with today's "King Cobra," which finds Lean linking up with ThaiBoy Digital. Over a shimmering trap-instrumental, Lean showcases his effortless melodic aptitude; while he may very well be singing about a drug binge, damned if he doesn't make it sound good. Hopefully this means we'll be getting more Yung Lean in the future. After Stranger, it feels like the sky is the limit.
Quotable Lyrics
Hundred thousand on the floor
Cocaine on the couch
Stuffed the dead king cobra in my leather pouch
Thaiboy goon with me, he rolling weed on leather couch
Scarecrow gang coming thru make u say ouch
