A devastating Earthquake in Mexico City has left at least 217 people dead after impacting on Tuesday. Among the victims of the 7.1-magnitude shock are as many as 20 children in a collapsed Villacoapa school, while another 30 remain missing. Emergency workers have been working throughout the night Tuesday to search out survivors buried beneath the rubble in affected areas, according to the New York times.

Since news of the tragedy broke Tuesday, musicians and other celebrities have been using their platform to spread awareness of the disaster and send prayers to those affected. "My heart goes out to the people of Mexico today," wrote Nicki Minaj on Twitter. "So much damage being done all around the world. Pray without ceasing."

"We have not experienced an event of this magnitude in our modern history," Governor Ricardo Rossello says of the storm. The death toll from the storm is at eight as of Tuesday, reports The Telegraph.

"Thinking and praying for all of my friends and fans in Mexico City affected by today's earthquake," writes Tinashe. Kap-G, whose parents grew up in San Marcos, Mexico, before emigrating to the U.S., is also thing of Mexico City at this time.
