It's been awhile since we received music from Jhene Aiko, specifically, music delivered to us in solo album format. She released TWENTY88, of course, in 2016 alongside her boo-thang Big Sean, but she hasn't actually released a solo album since 2014's debut effort, Souled Out. So it's safe to say that fans of the LA-based singer were excited when she finally resurfaced earlier this summer with a new single (and accompanying music video) "While We're Young." She quickly followed up it too, with another equally exciting single, featuring Chris Brown "Hello Ego (Don't Stop)." It would be another month, though, before we received information on her sophomore album, and currently, it's not confirmed whether the two preceding records will even make the final album.
The album details came by way of a Playboy magazine feature, where Jhene revealed the title to be TRIP 17, and detailed the album to be: “inspired by every type of trip you could imagine: mental, physical, even psychedelic. I’m at a point where I put it all in the music. It’s a puzzle I want people to put together.”
Now the roll out for TRIP 17 continues, although with a slight twist in the road. Jhene took to twitter to tease a short film titled Trip, with a 26-second trailer where she takes on the roll of Penny -- she's also changed her social handle accordingly. There's no release date mentioned for the short film, nor an explanation of how it will be attached to her sophomore album, so stay tuned for more details.
Take a peak at the trailer below, as well the script cover, which indicates that Jhene will also have some original poetry in the short film.
