Dave East's storytelling game is on point in new single "Peter Pan."

Peter Pan was a questionable character. Known for luring children to his otherworldly realm, he was said to spend his time indulging in peyote and dueling pirates. Today, the J.M Barrie icon has been immortalized in hip-hop lore thanks to New York's Dave East. Like some his legendary peers, East has an author's touch for storytelling. He puts pen to page with vivid detail on this one, fitting a surprising amount of character development within his verses. The vibe is reminiscent of some Nas, Ghostface, and Raekwon shit; if you're into that, don't sleep.

Coming off a feature on the upcoming PRhyme 2, East shows no sign of slowing his roll in 2018. A collaborative mixtape with Don Q is still on deck, and one wonders whether "Peter Pan" is slated to appear on an upcoming solo project. Either way, the single finds Dave in fine form. This is not the Neverland Ranch.

Quotable Lyrics

The younger n***s used to respect him, was kinda credible
He shot a couple cats in the nineties few n****s never knew
He did a stretch for some domestic shit
He punched his ex after she told him this some pussy you could never get
