On November 24th, Jadakiss and Fabolous held it down for East Coast hip-hop with the release of their highly anticipated Friday On Elm Street project. While the album didn't seem destined to take over the charts, it remained a refreshing dose of lyrical hip-hop from two of the game's most respected emcees. But did the sales reflect the quality? Ultimately, neither Jada nor Fab are commercial juggernauts in the current climate, though they've previously fare well. Still, their new album came through with a respectable outing: Friday On Elm Street cracked the Billboard Top 10, coming in at the tenth spot with 33,000 album-equivalent units. Of that, 18,000 came from traditional physical sales.
The project marks the sixth time Fab (the first time since Loso's Way in 2009) has hit the top ten on Billboard, and the fifth time for Jada (his last album, Top 5 Dead OR Alive previously reached number four). Ultimately, the duo couldn't contend with some of pop's heavyweights, like Taylor Swift, Post Malone, and Ed Sheeran, but the fact that they managed to sell 18,000 physical units is an impressive feat, especially in a streaming era.
If you haven't already checked out Friday On Elm Street, it's definitely worth your time. Yesterday, Jadakiss and Fabolous hit up The Breakfast Club to talk about the album, Mase & Cam'Ron's beef, and more. If you're looking for a bit of behind the scenes, it's an informative conversation from two of the game's most stalwart veterans.
