The "Stranger Things" creators dish on what fans can expect from Season 3.

Netflix may have lost a longtime flagship program in House of Cards in the aftermath of the Kevin Spacey scandal, but their hit series Stranger Things seems to be picking up the slack in a big way. The show, which recently dropped its second season, has been bringing in tens of millions of the viewers over the past couple of weeks. Fans who have long since binge-watched the latest batch of episodes are already looking ahead to Season 3 and what the storylines might have in store for characters that are fast becoming adored around the world. In a recent interview with Indiewire, the show's creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, touched a bit on what can be expected when the next season bows in 2018.

In a general sense, both men seem to feel that character development is going to take priority over expansion of the series' scope and look next season. “It’s not necessarily going to be bigger in scale,” said Matt Duffer. “What I am really excited about is giving these characters an interesting journey to go on.” It's a bit early to speculate on Season 3 details, even for the Duffers, who haven't even received a greenlight for another batch of episodes yet - though, given the current success of Stranger Things, another season shouldn't really be in doubt either. “It’s really just Matt and me working with some writers and figuring out where it’s going to go,” said Ross Duffer. When pressed on what the overall feel might be for the third season, both brothers said that the scripts will touch on “something almost weirdly more intimate” and definitely be “a lot of fun.”

There's also the issue of the young actors growing up fast in real life and how the Duffers are going to adapt those physical changes into believable character arcs and storylines in the show. Neither seem to be concerned with that potential problem, however. “We are leaning into it,” Matt Duffer said. “I love the fact that they’re going through adolescence.” He also described one's teenage years as "a very dramatic part of your life, and drama is good! So I think it’s good it forces the show to evolve." Whatever their current formula is, it's no secret that fans are only going to want more of it from Stranger Things down the road.
