Adamn Killa and UV Boi unite for a hypnotic cut.

Chicago rapper Adamn Killa seems to be exploring new sonic territory. Today's drop finds the Chicago rapper exploring a whimsical world of swirling synths and restrained production. The vibe feels more experimental than the traditional trap fare, with a bittersweet melodic arrangement and off-kilter instrumental; it's kind of reminiscent of some of former collaborator Yung Lean's recent work, namely the lonely musicality of Stranger. While the proclamations seem triumphant, there's something melancholic about Adamn's subdued delivery. "They ain't expect this from me," he sings, lullabye-esqe, "I knew what I wanted to be."

Is it an affirmation of identity, or a lamentation of opportunity lost? The lyrics suggest the former, while the music suggests the latter. Still, the beautiful and haunting production from UV Boi is a breath of fresh air. Adamn looks to be positioning himself for a prolific year; look for more drops from the Killa to arrive imminently.

Quotable Lyrics

They ain't expect this from me
I knew what I wanted to be
Only thing I can be is me
I could always always see
