Jay-Z's Friday night headlining set at Meadows Music and Arts Festival in NYC can now be streamed in its entirety on Tidal. The performance closed out the first night of the three-day fest, following sets from the likes of Joey Bada$$, 21 Savage, Migos, and Run The Jewels.
Much like his Made In America performance, Hov's Meadows' setlist contained a healthy serving of music from his 13th studio album 4:44, including a Damian Marley-assisted performance of "Bam" with special guest Damian Marley, as well as "The Story Of O.J.," "Marcy Me," and "Moonlight." Outside of the newer cuts, Jay delivered live favourites "Public Service Announcement," "U Don't Know," and "Run This Towm" as well as all-time classics "Big Pimpin'," "Hard Knock Life," and "99 Problems." Jay also did his collaborative single with Linkin Park "Numb / Encore," paying tribute to the late Chester Bennington.
Jay Z recently spoke of his approach to 4:44 in an interview with Rap Radar. "Before I started this album, I studied like not just hip hop, any genre. I studied Prince, I studied Michael," he said. "I really had to like think about what I wanted to say [on this album]. Think about what was the next thing, the next thing to I wanted to say. I didn't want to just make an album just to put out some music, I wanted it to be important. So it took me a minute to get to that point."
The Meadows continues today (Sunday) with performances from Kamaiyah, Ghostface Killah, Action Bronson, Nas. It will be streaming via Tidal later today.
