Drake may be in the middle of his Australian Boy Meets World tour dates, with each night on his tour reportedly grossing more than $1 million, but that doesn't mean that music is all that's on the rapper's mind. In fact, according to his social media posts from the past 24 hours, his film and TV endeavors are being made a larger priority over his other creative projects.
Drake used his official Instagram account to tease the return of Top Boy, a cult favorite for fans of British television, to the airwaves via the streaming giant Netflix. As per the U.K. publication The Guardian, the show is "set on the fictional Summerhouse estate in north London." The subject matter of the series was described as "an unforgiving portrayal of gang culture – often disturbing, sometimes funny but always distinctively British." Drake's involvement will likely pique the interest of many Netflix subscribers that have never heard of the program before. In addition to that, it looks like the rapper has a few more cool projects on the way in the milieus of movies and TV.
According to his cover story interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Drake and his business partner Future (not to be confused with the rapper of the same name) are teaming with James' SpringHill Entertainment to executive produce Top Boy, which goes into production early next year. The pair are actively shopping their documentary The Carter Effect, which centers on the life of basketball star Vince Carter, to several distributors including Netflix. However, the biggest coup of all might be the fact that Drake is supposedly teaming next with Steve Golin, the man behind Anonymous Content, the red-hot production house behind Spotlight and Mr. Robot for an untitled TV series. Film studio A24 and Apple have also reportedly okayed Drake to "produce whatever he chooses," which is surely tied to Jimmy Iovine trying to capitalize on Drake's seemingly boundless popularity, especially with the millennial generation.
What should Drake's untitled TV project be about? Which rappers should be bring on as co-stars? Let us know in the comments.
