One of the most acclaimed hip-hop producers praises the father of Travis Scott in the latest Rap Radar interview on Tidal.
Travis, born Jacques Webster, apparently had some cool, down to earth parents. Premier sites the "Goosebumps" rapper's father, Jack, as the man who taught him how to play the drums, calling him "one of his OGs" from when he was a kid in Texas, explaining how Travis' grandmother was a special force in the community he grew up in.
"[Jack's] mom was my English teacher and she's one the flyest people in my neighbourhood to this day, Mrs Webster," he adds, sending a RIP to her husband. "They were the first to have everything in our neighbourhood, they were the first ones with a pool table, first ones with a VCR. I was like 'damn they can record Soul Train and play them.'"
As Premiere got older he explains how Jack and his brother were always playing drums and bass in their house and are the ones who would teach him how to play the instruments. Jack taught him drums and Travis (who the current rapper is named after) taught him the bass.
"That's a lot that has something to do with my production style to this day," he says. Watch the clip below.
