It looks like the Donald Trump is the latest victim of a new lawsuit. According to TMZ, the 45th President is getting sued by a group of wilderness people for shrinking one of Utah's national monuments by more than half its size.
The lawsuit says Trump's decision to strip 900,000 acres from Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is an attempt to reverse President Clinton's 1996 decision to create the Monument. However, the wilderness group says that Trump needs to be aware of the Antiquities Act, which allows Presidents to create national monuments, but does not authorize them to do away with national monuments.
Critics have been suggesting that Trump is merely opening up the land so miners and frackers can can get their hands on it, or in other for monetary purposes. However, Trump did reportedly say it should be up to the Utah residents to decide whether the land is developed at all or not.
The wilderness groups want the courts to shut down Trump's move by saying he's overstepped his authority, and order the Monument be left at its original 1.7 million acres. Whether or not they win the lawsuit is another question, but we’ll keep you posted.
This story comes just hours after Trump’s lawyers said they couldn't defend his controversial Flynn tweet over the weekend, where he admitted to obstruction of justice (read here ICYMI).
