Christmas came early this year for fans for both Chance the Rapper and Jeremih, as the two artists linked up for a two-disc holiday album titled Merry Christmas Lil' Mama: Re-Wrapped. Among different tracks with names like "I'm Your Santa" and "Let It Snow," there sits the tender love ballad "Stranger at the Table." Sung from the viewpoint of a character who wants his former boo to switch places with one of the randoms at a holiday dinner table, the soaring vocals and touching lyrics are one of the high points of the project.
Sampling some of the flavor from The Jackson 5's classic "I Want You Back" (albeit slowed down), "Stranger at the Table" also features some vintage-style production that can call 90's R&B a not-too-distant cousin. The track should soon find a home next to some contemporary love songs that one suddenly finds on repeat during the holidays.
Quotable Lyrics
I know you don't want to be by yourself
Girl, hold you all around
I know I'm not that n***a that you
Just playing for now
