It was three years ago that we got Atlanta singer Demo Taped’s (Adam Alexander) Heart debut project. Initially crafted as a three-track Valentine’s Day gift for his girlfriend, their untimely split a day before the holiday meant a heartbreak that would soon catapult the now-20-year-old to the forefront of Atlanta’s rising stars.
Now, Demo Taped has finally followed up the debut with the sophomore Momentary EP. The new effort, like its predecessor, offers another untainted journey through Alexander’s emotions and a beautiful look at the human psyche. "I wrote down every idea, question, thought that came into my head,” he told i-D of the process he underwent in creating Momentary. “I told myself: ‘I’m not gonna censor myself. I’m not gonna let shyness, shame, or fear get in the way. I’m just gonna write.’ I took those notes in with me to each session.”
Here upbeat elements of R&B and pop come together for one smile-inducing repertory. It’s an uplifting delivery that makes the unleashing of lyrics such as,” I worry sometimes /The terror, the panic plays out in my mind” so palatable, crafting an intersection we didn’t know we were missing.
