You may know Elley Duhé through her 2016 single "Immortal," or perhaps its 2017 SnakeHips remix. If not, "Can You Touch" is a good introduction to the songwriter's fusion of indie of R&B. Filled with just enough production tricks to keep things interesting, the track is a pretty simple and straight-forward pop song that's driven by Duhé's performance. Her lyrics are bursting with personality ("Fuel up quick then we roll a spliff / Cruising through that nebulas / Up up up out this orbit") and her melodies often go in unexpected directions, speaking to her strength as a songwriter.
It's a strong start to what could easily be a breakout year for the singer-songwriter. Look out for more from her in the near future.
Quotable Lyrics:
Hit the trap door right next to the floor
Every time we get to low
Man, fuck a civil war
Loves what we're here for
And we don't turn back
We move, resonate
Navigate through the dark night
We illuminate
From the inside out and fight back
We don't break we just groove
We don't lose hit the fuse
and we'll do what we gotta do
and we down but we up
In the stars way on up
