Fetty Wap is trying to protect his name at all costs.

It looks like Fetty Was aint trying to have anyone profit off his name. According to TMZ, the New Jersey sensation has filed some legal docs to get his stage name trademarked. If all goes well and it’s granted, Fetty will be the only guy who can use the name for all things music. And you better not think about trying to put his name on any sort of merchandise, because he’ll have every right to sue.

While one might think that’s pretty obvious, it’s not always the case with rappers. As TMZ pointed out, Common was originally first known as Common Sense before a ska band sued him back in the 90’s because they had the rights to the name. He has since gone by strictly Common, and I think it’s worked out just fine for him

This news of Fetty trying to get his name trademark comes just a few weeks after he was spotted riding around his hometown of New Jersey passing out $100 bills to the kids (see video below). As for what’s on the music front, the Jersey rapper is coming off the release a couple loose songs these past couple months, including “High Thoughts,” “There She Go,” & his remix to Tay-K’s viral hit “The Race.”

Whether label issues have played a part in it or not, Fetty Wap has been struggling to build enough hype to launch an official campaign for his upcoming sophomore album King Zoo. Over the past year, the New Jersey sensation has treated fans to a couple surprise projects to hold us over in the meantime thankfully, including Zoovier & most recently Lucky 7 back in June, but hopefully Fetty can get turn it around & find that single to help build buzz for his upcoming album. In the meantime, check out his latest contribution to DJ Envy’s new single “Text Ur Number,” as well as his video for “Gotta Blast.”

As always, we’ll continue to keep you posted moving forward.
