While their name may conjure up images of Death Metal, Blended Babies are far from it. With a penchant for smooth, live instrumentation, the duo of JP and Rich Gains quickly established themselves as adept musicians. In case you've never heard of them, their official bio cites their influences as SoundGarden, Dr. Dre, Outkast, Black Sabbath, Albert King and Eric Clapton; a diverse and eclectic array, but the seemingly odd amalgamation quickly becomes evident within their genre-blending production.
Now, the duo have dropped off a brand new project called Supervillain, which features ten tracks, as well as appearances from Domo Genesis, Fat Tony, and Shorty K. While the majority of the album is instrumental, "Yabo Bass" finds Domo Genesis effortless sliding over a slinking bassline and soft, soulful organ. The vibe is vintage, with elements of sixties rock jam sessions (that must be the Clapton influences), but the hip-hop sensibilities are enough to keep rap fans coming back for more.
