If you're looking for two celebrities that you didn't think would be praising each other on social media, Seth Rogen and Nicki Minaj might be a suitable pairing. In one corner, you have Rogen, the stoner actor/producer extraordinaire who has appeared in popular films like Superbad, Knocked Up and Neighbors. In the other corner, you have hip-hop's diva du jour, who is as famous nowadays for her Barbie Queen persona as she is for her music. Over the course of the past two days, the two have crossed paths on Twitter and paid some mutual respect to one another.
First, Rogen called himself "f**king good" after being referenced by Minaj in her verse on Fergie's new track "You Already Know." Rogen is actually no stranger to fawning over big stars in the rap scene. In a previous Nardwuar interview, Seth admitted to being tear gassed while attending a Wu-Tang Clan concert. In addition to that, he has performed The Roots’ “Mellow My Man” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling” on The Tonight Show, as well as been praised by the likes of Chance the Rapper, Travis Scott, Wiz Khalifa, and Snoop Dogg. Most famously, he and James Franco parodied Kanye West's music video for "Bound 2" that is still as righteously hilarious now as it was then.
Nicki Minaj eventually responded to Rogen's original tweet, using the hashtag for her new Fergie collab while also calling Rogen her "hero." In fact, the rap empress has become somewhat of a comedy commodity in the movie business as well, starring in titles like Barbershop: The Next Cut, The Other Woman and one of the entries in the Ice Age franchise. Who knows - maybe the two will eventually team in a movie together, perhaps a rapper and her chronic-enthusiast manager? If that doesn't happen one day, I'm now going to be very, very disappointed.
