Well looks who’s back! Eight year since their last album, the Black Eyed Peas have decided to return to the music scene today with a new single called “Street Livin.”
Over some boom bap production, will.i.am, apl.de.ap, and Taboo deliver a powerful, and socially-conscious record that finds the trio tackling a variety of current issues, including the war on drugs and mass incarceration. “Street livin’, caught in a trap,” Will.i.am raps. “Guns or books, sell crack or rap / Be like kings or be like pawns / They called us coons, now they call us cons.”
It’s unclear at the moment on where this single will end up, if there’s a comeback project in the works or not, but we’ll definitely take it for now.
Available now on iTunes, take a listen to the comeback single and let us know what you think!
UPDATE: New music video added (below).
Quotable Lyrics:
Well ten years no bail, four years at Yale
So forget about the statue of generally
Because the status of blacks are generally
Gonna end up in some penitentary
Systematically that’s how they made it to be
