West wants his verified Instagram account to reflect his new name.

Kanye West has made it no secret over the past few years that he prefers the name "Ye." While it hasn't exactly caught on with the public it's the name he's used to release new music and what most interviews with him refer to him as. Now he's attempting to get it changed in another place, his verified Instagram account. His account currently reads "kanyewest" as it has for years but a new post he made to the platform revealed that he's in the process of changing it.

"Name being changed to Ye on insta shortly" the caption of his post reads. The picture of itself is a screenshot of DMs where he explains further. "I'm closing my Kanye West Instagram account. My name is Ye. No brand or numbers gonna force me to call myself what they still want me to be," the message pictured read. At the moment his verified account still sports his original name. Additionally, a surprising amount of fans in the comments seem to be against the change. Check out his newest Instagram post below.

Kanye West Wants To Change His Instagram Name

Multiple comments on the post insist that they still want to call West by his birth name. "Yo mama named you KANYE WEST, so that’s what I’m calling yo" one of the top comments reads. Another reply shares the same sentiment saying "Donda named you Kanye. So im calling you Kanye."

West's new album VULTURES 1 with Ty Dolla $ign has spent back to back weeks at the top spot on the Billboard 200. This week it held off Yeat's new project 2093 which debuted at number two. The album's hit song "Carnival" remains in the top 5 of the Hot 100 and is expected to rise back up the charts next week. What do you think of Kanye West wanting to change his Instagram name to just "Ye?" Do you refer to him as Ye or still call him by his original name? Let us know in the comment section below.
