Twitter chimes in on UFC 217.

Call it a comeback.

Stepping back into the octagon for the first time in nearly four years, George St-Pierre (26-2) walked away with a championship belt after choking out Michael Bisping (30-8) in the third round of the headlining match of UFC 217 Saturday night. With the middleweight title on the line, it was a series of hits that included a left hook and a rear-naked choke that left Bisping unconscious that ultimately granted St-Pierre his 20th career win in the UFC, now tying with Bisping on the list of all-time wins in the UFC.

“I don’t have words in my mouth right now,” St-Pierre said soon after. “It’s a dream come true. He hurt me very hard. I got stunned and tried to hide it. I wouldn’t like to do that fight again.

St-Pierre’s win wasn’t the only shocking outcome of the evening as the previous fights on the card bore similar circumstances with two new champions being crowned in the forms of TJ Dillashaw (15-3) who knocked out contender Cody Garbrandt (11-1) in the bantamweight title fight, and Rose Namajunas (7-3) who knocked out Joanna Jedrzejczyk (14-3) three minutes into the opening round of the strawweight matchup.

“There was so much crap going on in the media and stuff,” said Namajunas, 25. “I just want to use my gift in martial arts to make the world a better place. This belt doesn’t mean anything. Just be a good person. I know we fight, but this is entertainment. Afterwards, it’s nothing.”

With an overall outcome of this magnitude, Twitter certainly had a few thoughts, with the resounding consensus leaning toward UFC 217 being one of the more exciting cards the organization has seen. Check them out below.
