Experimenting in hip-hop obviously has its benefits and drawbacks. Some of the best in the business at trying new things are usually dwelling in the underground unfortunately. Because they do not like to play things safe, the casual listener is easily going to be turned off. Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA are just a couple of examples of rappers that have been able to stay true to themselves and still grab some mainstream attention. It just does not happen too often though. For Bear1Boss he may not care about how he is perceived along with his music.
The idiosyncratic Atlanta rapper and auto-crooner has been releasing material since 2016 and lots of it. This past weekend, Bear1Boss put out his fifth record in about a year called SUPER BOSS! However, this is track is so safe compared to the rest of the record. That is saying quite a bit. Honestly, he should have made more songs like "conscious." We do not say that proudly, as a lot of the tracks just sound unlistenable. Just because something is unique does not excuse it from being good or bad. Just listen to songs like "chanel adventure" and "abuse me" and tell us how you feel after hearing them. Again, we do not take pride in saying that, but SUPER BOSS! just was not jiving with us.
What are your thoughts on this brand-new mixtape, SUPER BOSS!, by Bear1Boss? Which tracks are gravitating toward and why? Is this the best tape he has ever put out, why or why not? Is he doing too much on this record for you? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to tell us in the comments below.
