Any readers out there? If so, you might be interested to know that Gucci Mane is making his first foray into the literary world with his upcoming book The Autobiography Of Gucci Mane hitting stores on September 19th. If you haven't already checked it out, the prologue can be found here, detailing Gucci's Tony Montana-esque decline into pre-arrest paranoia and drug abuse. It sounds like some powerful stuff, and I know I'll be checking for a copy. As fans wait in anticipation for what promises to be an entertaining and insightful dose of hip-hop literature, Guwop continues his legendary run by sitting for for an interview with acclaimed author Malcolm Gladwell.
In case you don't know, Malcolm Gladwell is a staff writer for The New Yorker, as well as a New York Times bestselling author. He has written five books including The Tipping Point, Blink, Outliers, David & Goliath, & What the Dog Saw: And Other Adventures. Gladwell happens to be Guwop's favorite author, so there's no doubt that the meeting of the minds was an exciting occurrence for both parties.
The interview ended up covering a lot of interesting ground, including some discourse about hip-hop music, as covered by High Snobriety. After Gladwell acknowledged Gucci as "the Godfather of trap," he asked the rapper which artists earned a spot on the coveted Guwop playlist. Gucci spoke about listening to music while working out, and liking stuff that I can play the whole album, naming current artists like "Uzi’s album, Lil Baby, Triple X, 6lack, SZA, Solange."
Gladwell kept to the current generation when he asked which young artist Gucci felt was the most talented, and Guwop replied with "I used to say it was [Young Thug] but now I’m saying it’s a tie between Thug and Quavo."
Despite his appreciation for the new generation, Gucci's still got love for the classics. He made it clear that if he were only allowed to bring five songs to a desert island, they would be:
