Mick Jenkins' new project is an unstructured, unfiltered display of the Chicago rappers strengths as a writer. It's the ra equivalent of a free-write, with Jenkins' letting his pen guide him, perhaps landing somewhere unexpected in the process. Not any rapper could pull it off, but Jenkins' high technical skill and expert control of his voice means that he can sell an exercise like this better than many of his peers.
"Or More is a project series involving musical ideas and concepts that are currently inspiring the album’s creation process," he writes of the project. "As creatives we live in a world of time constraints imposed by illusive industry standards, anxious demands of appreciators, or even our own self reflections. #OrMore is a smaller context of this larger pool of thoughts.. a world of exploration removed from the confines of a particular method. Its my way of sharing the beauty in Indecisiveness. Sometimes we have to make music to locate the true music within our being. The first hones in on the ANXIOUS."
If this is simply Jenkins doing stretches before he completes writing his next album. There's a lot to be excited about.
Quotable Lyrics:
In Amsterdam
I drink coffee and dodge all the cancer clouds
On my campfire like teachings
Name a campaign more cohesive than truth
A culmination of lies, a compilation of proof
A combination of both is what creates all this confusion
Your captions don't save nobody
They castrating my body on camera
Credit Montreal, I been considering Canada
