Throughout the past year, XXXTentacion has showcased a wide array of different styles, from the abrasive lo-fi of "Look At Me," to the warm and thought-provoking "Jocelyn Flores." In fact, it's kind of crazy that the man who once gave us a song called "Maxipads for Everyone!" was able to drop off such a personal album in 17. Yet X has consistently proven to be one of hip-hop's most divisive and surprising figures, and his latest mixtape A Ghetto Christmas Carol finds the Florida emcee adding some new styles to his arsenal.
While the project largely features a return to the brash production of "Look At Me," X does show some restraint on the low key, almost old-school "hate will never win." Book-ended by a lengthy speech by Donald Trump, X drops some bars over some hazy production from the late, great J Dilla (Life). X actually spits some impressive bars on this one, showing off a dexterous flow that he hides more than he should. Were ya'll feeling this tape?
Quotable Lyrics
Mind me while I sit and pretend to make amends
With all these false laws and menacing men
Will fucking swallow you
I'll follow you down road
To this broken-hearted love for you
My heart is gone in series of corpse
